Canadian Millennials Want to Own Homes

I have worked with many millennial clients who are interested in buying their first home instead of renting.

Canadian millennials aged 25 to 34 are entering the real estate markets across the country looking at condos and major markets (even willing to rent) in order to be new home owners.

I remember buying my first home (a duplex) in the Beaches when I was around 18. I went in as a silent partner in order to help my sister buy a home and provide my nieces with their first roof over their head that they owned. We rented part of the house to carry the costs. At that time our 2 mortgages amounted to 19% interest (yes you read that right) so the carrying hosts of an old home running on oil with a mortgage that was well over 2,000 a month (decades ago) was very stressful.

We sold and I bought my first home on my own in my mid-20s in the Upper Beach area where I lived and renovated for 10 years. As a parent I encourage my kids to buy.
